What kind of fabric is polyester? The distinction between pure cotton and polyester yarn
What kind of fabric is polyester?
Polyester is also known as Terrilon, Americans also call it "Dacron", is an important variety of synthetic fibers, is one of the three synthetic fibers in simple process, the price is relatively cheap, plus it has strong and durable, good elasticity, not easy to deformation, corrosion resistance, insulation, crisp, easy to wash and dry and other characteristics, so it is widely used in the manufacture of clothing fabrics and industrial products.
Polyester is a fiber made from refined terephthalic acid (PTA) or dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) and ethylene glycol (EG) by esterification or transesterification and condensation reaction. It has excellent formability, high strength and resilience. Polyester yarn or fabric after the formation of flat, fluffy shape or pleats, in use after several washing, still can be durable.

Chemical structure
From the perspective of polyester molecular composition, it is composed of short aliphatic hydrocarbon chain, ester group, benzene ring, alcohol hydroxyl group. In addition to the existence of two alcohol hydroxyl groups, there is no other polar groups, polyester fiber hydrophilicity is very poor. The polyester molecule contains about 46% ester group, which can be hydrolyzed and pyrolyzed at high temperature, and soaplyzed when encountering alkali, which reduces the degree of polymerization.
Polyester molecules also contain aliphatic hydrocarbon chains, which can make polyester molecules have a certain flexibility, but because there are benzene rings in polyester molecules that cannot rotate internally, polyester macromolecules are basically rigid molecules, and the molecular chains are easy to keep linear. Therefore, dacron macromolecules are easy to crystallize under this condition, so dacron has higher crystallinity and orientation.
