Definition and classification of 100% polyamide
Yarn 100 Polyamide, commonly known as 100% nylon, is a type of high molecular polymer formed by polycondensation of diamine and dibasic acid, or by ring-opening polymerization of lactam. Because its molecular chain contains a large number of amide groups (-CONH-), it is named polyamide. According to the different polymerizing monomers, common 100% polyamides are mainly divided into two categories: polyamides made by polycondensation of diamine and diacid, such as polyamide 66 (PA66); polyamides made by ring-opening polymerization of lactam, such as polyamide 6 (PA6).
PA66 is polymerized by hexamethylenediamine and adipic acid, with regular molecular chain arrangement, high crystallinity, high melting point and mechanical strength; PA6 is polymerized by ring-opening polymerization of ε-caprolactam, and its molecular chain is slightly shorter than PA66, with better flexibility and processing performance. In addition, there are other types such as polyamide 11 and polyamide 12, which have different performance indicators to meet diverse application needs.
Performance advantages of 100% polyamide
(1.) Mechanical properties
100% polyamide has excellent mechanical properties, and its tensile strength, flexural strength and impact strength are all excellent. Taking PA66 as an example, its tensile strength can reach 80-100MPa, and its flexural strength can reach 120-150MPa. It can withstand large external forces without breaking, and is suitable for manufacturing mechanical parts that require high-strength support. At the same time, polyamide also has good wear resistance. During the friction process, its surface is not easy to wear and scratch, which can significantly extend the service life of the product.
(2.) Thermal properties
Different types of 100% polyamide have different thermal properties. The melting point of PA66 is about 260℃, and the melting point of PA6 is about 220℃. They can maintain good dimensional stability and mechanical properties within a certain temperature range. However, polyamide will undergo thermal oxidation degradation in high temperature environments, affecting its performance. Therefore, in high-temperature application scenarios, it is usually necessary to perform modification treatment to improve its heat resistance.
(3.) Chemical properties
100% polyamide has good chemical stability and has a certain tolerance to general acids, alkalis, salt solutions and organic solvents. However, under the action of strong oxidizing acids (such as concentrated sulfuric acid, concentrated nitric acid) and special solvents such as phenols, polyamide will dissolve or degrade. In addition, polyamide easily absorbs moisture in a humid environment, resulting in dimensional expansion and performance changes, which is also a problem that needs to be paid attention to in its application.
(4.) Other properties
Polyamide also has good electrical insulation properties and can be used to manufacture electrical insulation parts; it has excellent dyeing properties and can present rich colors through different dyeing processes, and is widely used in the textile field; at the same time, polyamide has good molding and processing properties and can be made into products of various shapes through various processing methods such as injection molding, extrusion, and blow molding.

Application fields of 100% polyamide
(1.) Textile and clothing field
In the textile and clothing industry, fabrics made of Polyamide Yarn For Knitting fiber have the advantages of wear resistance, quick drying and wrinkle resistance. Sportswear and outdoor equipment often use polyamide fabrics to meet the needs of high strength, high wear resistance and quick drying during exercise. For example, mountaineering clothing, sports tights, etc. can not only adapt to complex sports environments, but also maintain comfort. In addition, polyamide fibers can also be blended with other fibers to improve the comprehensive performance of fabrics and be used to make fashionable clothing and home textile products.
(2.) Automobile industry field
100% polyamide is widely used in the automobile industry. In terms of automobile interior, polyamide is used to manufacture instrument panels, door interior panels, seat components, etc. Its good mechanical properties and aesthetics can improve the quality and safety of the interior. In automobile engine peripheral parts, such as radiator water tanks, air filter housings, etc., polyamide can work stably in harsh environments such as high temperature and oil pollution due to its heat resistance and chemical resistance. In addition, polyamide can also be used to manufacture automotive transmission components and electrical system components, contributing to the lightweighting and performance improvement of automobiles.
(3.) Electronic and electrical field
Due to its good electrical insulation and processing properties, 100% polyamide is widely used in electronic and electrical products. In the manufacture of electronic equipment housings, polyamide can provide good mechanical protection and beautiful appearance; in connectors, switches, sockets and other components, the insulation performance and dimensional stability of polyamide ensure the reliability and safety of electrical connections. At the same time, as electronic products develop towards miniaturization and lightweight, the high strength and low specific gravity of polyamide make it an ideal material choice.
(4.) Industrial manufacturing field
In the field of industrial manufacturing, 100% polyamide is often used to manufacture mechanical parts such as gears, bearings, pulleys, etc. Its high wear resistance and self-lubricating properties can reduce friction and wear between components and reduce maintenance costs; good mechanical strength and dimensional stability ensure the normal operation of components under complex working conditions. In addition, polyamide can also be used to manufacture corrosion-resistant equipment such as pipes and containers to meet the special needs of industries such as chemical and food.
100% polyamide performance test data comparison
In order to intuitively demonstrate the performance advantages of 100% polyamide, two common polyamides, PA6 and PA66, were selected for performance test comparison with other materials. The results are as follows:
| Test items | PA6 | PA66 | Polyester (PET) | Polypropylene (PP) | Natural rubber |
| Tensile strength (MPa) | 60 - 80 | 80 - 100 | 40 - 60 | 20 - 35 | 10 - 35 |
| Flexural strength (MPa) | 90 - 120 | 120 - 150 | 50 - 80 | 30 - 50 | / |
| Melting point (℃) | 220 | 260 | 250 | 160 - 170 | / |
| Water absorption (%, 24h) | 3.5 - 5.0 | 1.5 - 2.5 | 0.2 - 0.4 | 0.01 - 0.03 | / |
| Abrasion resistance (abrasion loss, mg/1000r) | October 15 | August 12 | 15 - 20 | 20 - 30 | / |
It can be seen from the experimental data that 100% polyamide is significantly better than polyester and polypropylene in tensile strength, bending strength and wear resistance; in terms of melting point, PA66 is higher than polyester, showing better heat resistance. Although the water absorption rate of polyamide is relatively high, this problem can be effectively improved through modification. Compared with natural rubber, polyamide has significant advantages in mechanical strength and heat resistance.
Development trend of 100% polyamide industry
With the growing demand for high-performance materials in various industries, the Yarn 100 Polyamide industry shows a diversified development trend. On the one hand, the performance of polyamide is improved by chemical modification and adding fillers, such as developing high heat resistance, high flame retardancy and high toughness polyamide materials to meet the needs of high-end fields such as aerospace and new energy. On the other hand, the research and development of environmentally friendly polyamide materials has become a hot spot, and products such as bio-based polyamide and recyclable polyamide have gradually entered the market, promoting the industry to develop in a green and sustainable direction. In addition, the application of intelligent production technology will improve the production efficiency and product quality stability of polyamide, and further expand its application space.
